Welcome

Tiree’s boat culture has been part of life since the days when small open fishing boats provided an essential part of the island’s economy. For generations many of the Island’s families relied on fishing as a source of income.
Organised competitive racing evolved from fishermen racing home on their return from the Skerryvore fishing grounds. There are records of the Tiree Regattas dating as far back as 1911 with as many as 30 boats taking part in sailing and rowing races. This activity has remained an important part of Tiree’s social calendar. The aim of this web site is to chronicle the modern Tiree Regatta in modern times and bring Tiree’s unique boating culture to a wider audience.
